Do Budget Travel Guides Save You Money? Nov 30

There are several ebooks for sale on the internet that claim to show how you can save much if not all of your air fare whenever you decide to fly from A to B.  These guides also include many other possible areas in which to save a considerable amount, such as hotel accommodation, cheap cruises, reduced rate theme park tickets – the list is almost endless.

These guides seem to upset some of the more experienced travel fraternity.  Why pay for information that can be found for free online?  It’s a waste of money! Why would any person with any shred of integrity be seen anywhere within 500 miles of these dreadful salespeople? Only good for suckers! On and on it goes.

Well, I research and sell data and information to people who specifically want to buy it.  As do travel agents, by the way, who do not seem to attract the ire of the ‘experienced’ travelers. There are a whole lot of people working in the information business, providing news and loads of other data and information which all of us want and pay for, one way or the other.

I believe that it is the mindset of these travel ‘experts’ that is the real problem. Having traveled extensively myself, often in obscure parts of the world, I know that you must learn to work directly with foreign airlines and uncooperative hotel receptionists, all the time ready to change schedules at a moment’s notice to meet a new business timetable.  This is what makes seasoned travelers feel superior to ‘ordinary’ people.

In spite of what the experts might say to the contrary, it is NOT easy to put your hands on the right travel data and information.  It is often needed quickly. And most of the travel experts have found their own shortcuts for arranging easier and better journeys without wasting time on tricky phone calls or indifferent internet connections.  So I think that it is perfectly reasonable to charge for providing this information to those people who are not inclined to dig it out for themselves.

So, on one level, that is what many of these travel guides manage to do.  They give the inside guidance for arranging your own travel better and more cheaply.  This saves you time and shows you the best way to get where you want to go, and you often get there in a higher travel class than expected.

However, there is also the matter of the many perks and freebies available to travel agents.  Is it possible to gain access to all these industry promos and allowances?  Indeed it is.

A good budget travel guide will show you how to tap into these insider ‘secrets’ and use them to your advantage.  You should not have to pay more than for one of these guides, and the ones I recommend also come with full refund, no-nonsense, guarantees so there seems to be no risk as far as I can see.  At the very least they are very interesting to read and are full of ideas.

Any planning for travel should include a look at our recommended favorite guide on our website. I strongly suggest you give it a try – you can always get your money back. But I think you will prefer to keep it, because it is a mine of useful advice, tips and information for the demanding traveler.

Have a great trip!
